Why maintenance should be separated from capital cost
Construction or procurement is a one-time project phase. Ventilation, backup power, fire-protection equipment, water systems, doors, controls and other systems continue to require inspection, consumables and repairs after handover. Keeping annual operating costs separate makes long-term planning clearer.
What this calculator intentionally does not assume
- no universal maintenance interval;
- no average filter, battery or service-visit price;
- no assumption that every listed system applies to every shelter;
- no default contingency percentage.
